Madeline Weeks is an award-winning costume designer, fashion director & collaborator and is widely recognized for her editorial and design expertise. As a visual storyteller with an unerring eye and editorial voice, Weeks has worked with some of the world’s most talented directors like Hiro Murai as the costume designer on the Amazon limited series “Mr. and Mrs. Smith,” starring Donald Glover and Maya Erskine. She has also designed the costumes for James Gray’s coming of age film “Armageddon Time,” starring Anne Hathaway, Jeremy Strong, and Anthony Hopkins. Additionally, Weeks was the creative design consultant for director David O. Russell’s film “Amsterdam,” starring Christian Bale, Margot Robbie, David Washington and Taylor Swift. Most recently, Weeks worked with writer/director Adam Brooks designing the costumes for “The Life List”, a romantic comedy produced by Netflix due to come out later this year. She has worked with top music video directors like Warren Fu and fashion designer turned director Tom Ford. Weeks has worked with influential photographers such as Craig McDean, Glen Luchford, Mert & Marcus, Steven Klein, Inez & Vinoodh and Steven Meisel among others, to create evocative, unforgettable images.
A champion of American style, luxury and glamour, Weeks was the fashion director for GQ magazine for twenty years where she collaborated with many of the world’s most famous actors, athletes, musicians and personalities - from Beyoncé, Rihanna, Taylor Swift and Timothée Chalamet to Leo DiCaprio, Will Ferrell and Troye Sivan - to create memorable, blockbuster images and covers for GQ, Rolling Stone, Vanity Fair, Zeit, L’Officiel, among others.
After attending Parsons School of Design and The Fashion Institute of Technology for fashion design & illustration, Weeks began her career as a fashion designer. She worked for Ralph Lauren in design and advertising, a position that included styling advertising campaigns. She went on to work with the designer Zoran, where she managed the company and oversaw design and retail as well as production and publicity.
Later, Weeks created costumes for independent films, designed official pilots & crew uniforms for Michael Eisner’s corporate jet, and helped relaunch Coach in 1997. She has also created memorable print and broadcast advertising campaigns for iconic brands including Netflix, Adidas, Rolex, Mercedes, Clinique, Tommy Hilfiger and Levis.
Weeks continues to design & style iconic looks for artists like the Jonas Brothers world tour, photo shoots for Vogue, Vanity Fair and GQ, among others. She has created her own design & consulting business using her keen editorial and design ability to collaborate with talent in multiple artistic disciplines. She designed costumes for David Byrne’s world tour in 2008, styled music videos, including Mark Ronson’s Amy Winehouse hit “Valerie,” Dave Grohl and The Foo Fighters, “Shame,” and styled major television & print advertising campaigns for celebrities like Jerry Seinfeld, Paul Simon and Hannah Gadsby.
In 2020, Weeks founded First By Madeline, an eco-friendly collection of impeccably crafted, ethically sustainable faux fur coats made in Los Angeles. She aligned with The Humane Society to protect and preserve wildlife around the world and works with local artisans and thoughtfully engineered mills. This is a very special, limited collection sold online and at select luxury shops. Custom pieces are made to order. Weeks lives in Los Angeles and divides her time between LA and NYC.
